Toronto, Ontario:
SAP partners with HeroX to launch Data Anonymization Challenge awarding up to $60,000 for the winning solution.
SAP and HeroX are Looking for Your Solutions to Protect Personal Privacy in a new Data Anonymization Challenge.
AI-powered applications are being introduced in organizations across the globe every day. However large barriers for adoption still remain. One significant challenge is a lack of useful, authentic data to train AI without sufficient tools to ensure the privacy of the training data. It’s problems like these that SAP wants to tackle in its latest SAP Innovation Center in Newport Beach.
“Solving the most challenging issues facing the world today requires collaboration and an open-innovation approach. SAP is proud to partner with HeroX to leverage the power and speed of our ecosystem to advance enterprise AI and invite technology experts and innovators from across the globe to join innovation efforts,” said Max Wessel, Chief Innovation Officer at SAP.
To accomplish SAP’s commitment to solving the fundamental challenges of enterprise AI technology, like data anonymization, SAP is embracing a new approach to harness the ideas of the global technology community. SAP has teamed up with crowdsourcing innovation firm HeroX to launch a prize competition for innovators. The best contributions will be rewarded with an overall prize money of $60,000 and the winning solutions will be open-sourced for further refinement and use in all disciplines.
“The power of global collaboration to solve the world’s most pressing problems is HeroX’s core belief. SAP’s Data Anonymization Challenge demonstrates the power of crowdsourcing to unite industry experts, researchers, and students to create the future of disruptive AI technologies,” said Christian Cotichini, CEO and Co-Founder of HeroX.
The challenge tasks solvers to propose innovative solutions to anonymize semi-structured data. In current business processes, many pieces of information are still transferred using photocopies of documents like invoices, sometimes even with handwritten notes or containing other semi- and unstructured data. Translating this data into structured data is critical for further analysis and processing. In order to improve the accuracy of machine learning-based automation, hundreds of thousands of real data points are required. To use this data for training, there is a need to be able to ensure the utmost data privacy of personally identifying information. Innovators are challenged to provide solutions that enable anonymization without compromising the results of machine learning. Identifying scalable and transferable techniques for secure data anonymization within semi-structured data will accelerate the progress of enterprise AI and open source innovation.
