The Anacapa Dental Art Institute (805-669-9680) has updated its minimally invasive restoration options for adults to include fully metal-free inlays and onlays, custom-built by their prosthodontist team to provide a natural-looking and functional repair.

In response to an increased demand for minimally invasive, biomimetic, and highly durable dentistry, the Anacapa Dental Art Institute has updated its Inlay and Onlay restoration services to include fully metal-free and natural-looking options, with increased durability over the traditional treatment.

Traditionally, there have been several different techniques for repairing a cavity, including fillings, crowns, and bridges, however, in some situations, these techniques may require the dental team to cause more trauma than is required to correct the problem. These new inlays use a minimally invasive technique that helps clients to retain as much of their natural teeth as possible, without sacrificing function or aesthetics.
These metal-free inlays have several benefits over traditional fillings, including increased durability and longevity. However, the most significant long-term benefit is a result of the new composite material, which does not contract as much as metal fillings after the procedure, creating a tighter seal against debris and bacteria getting inside the tooth.
Inlays can be used in many situations that would otherwise require a filling, crown, or bridge, although only if the cavity has not expanded to the outside edges of the tooth. Clients whose cavities have reached the edges, or “cusps” of their teeth may still be able to request an onlay, which provides similar protection and durability but requires a more complicated fabrication and installation procedure.
The Anacapa Dental Art Institute uses a team of prosthodontists and a fully in-house dental laboratory to design and produce each inlay or onlay, on-site. While each prosthetic is custom-built for individual clients to maximize its aesthetic appeal and functionality, in some situations this may require clients to return for a second visit for installation.
When scheduling an appointment all clients are encouraged to discuss sedation options for their next visit. The Anacapa Dental team uses a team of registered and trained specialists to administer four levels of sedation, ranging from mild, oral-conscious sedation, to general anesthesia.
One recent client explained, “This fantastic team helped me regain my smile. I am now confident about myself and ready to face the world because I have a complete set of teeth. Anacapa Dental's team displayed a high level of skill and dedication. Thanks to your exceptional dental care and the opportunity to restore my smile, I am incredibly grateful.”
