CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) dental crowns are a convenient alternative to traditional crowns and bridges. Westlake Hills Dental Arts explains that this type of ceramic dental cap eliminates the need for temporary crowns and, since they are metal-free, results in a natural-looking smile.
They are produced using CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) technology, which allows for complete customization of the final product. Using a 3D digital tool, the practitioners can take an impression of the affected tooth, before using the in-house milling unit to fabricate a covering.
This custom crown will mimic how the natural teeth look and feel in the mouth. As such, the Westlake Hills Dental Arts dentists do not need to send molds to a lab for manufacturing, nor do patients need to wear temporary crowns while their permanent ones are being made.
As with traditional crown procedures, the teeth must be cleaned and prepared for the CEREC covering. A dental practitioner will then adhere the crown to the tooth and check it for fit.
